Book Review

The King James version was completed in 1611, and is considered the authoritative translation for academic theologians.  This Bible is a beautiful representation of that translation. This may not be a large print Bible, but the font is well-sized and easy to read.

This study Bible includes extensive commentaries. Each book includes a thorough introduction and verse by verse explanations on each page.  There are select highlights in every book going deeper into the scripture.  There is also a timeline covering the events of the intertestamental period.  There are full-color maps, a concordance, and an index.  It includes all the resources that you need to go deeper into God’s Word.

Angels: Who they Are, What they Do, and Why it Matters

A Book Review by Wendy Drumm

Angels 3D for LPI received this book expecting to find something fluffy and encouraging.  I expected something to feed and nourish my soul, something along the lines of an inspirational greeting card, because that’s where angels have been relegated in the world of serious theology.  What I didn’t expect is this book.

This is a book on the theology of angels, and not how they feel or how they look painted over cribs in nurseries.  This is a serious book for Christians looking to improve in their own relationship with Jesus Christ.  The author, Frank Graham, wrote this book as an analysis of what God’s Word says about angels and what we can learn from them.

As pointed out in the passage of scripture where Jacob sees the ladder to heaven, and in the passage where Isaiah comes to the throne room of God, we can understand the intimate understanding and relationship that angels have with God.  As the author demonstrates, the angels are different from us in that they are doing the will of God at all times.  Their experience with God has left with them the only appropriate response, the one we should see within our own hearts, obedience… praise… supplication… and… well, everything.

Each chapter takes us through a characteristic of an angel as written in scripture, and turns that into a theological lesson that helps the reader understand God and draw closer to him.  For example, there is on chapter on perspective that leads the believer to better understand spiritual disciplines, so that we can better understand God, and therefore be always in his will for us.

This book was a delightful surprise.  I didn’t expect to be reading this book thoughtfully with highlighter in hand, or recommending it to my husband by the second chapter, but that’s what happened.  I encourage you to read this book, and I pray that you get what I got from the pages.
