Surprise! This book is a devotional. I am so enraptured by the Red Letter Words of Jesus. I wanted this book to be an in-depth review of the teachings of Jesus Christ in their historical context. I wanted this to outline the teachings of Jesus outside of the teachings of Paul. I wanted to get some hard-core honest commandments from our Savior. I got a devotional. I guess I need to read the book descriptions better, but to be fair, it doesn’t actually tell you in the book resources that this is a devotional.
While I am sure that there are passages that can be summed up in a single page summary, that is not true of all of the teachings of Christ. For example, there are whole books written on just the Sermon on the Mount. Look at the writings of John Stott. Insight into the original language and context that really brings deeper meaning to the truth He spoke. You just can’t get that in a single page.
My disappointment aside, this is a lovely book. The cover is beautiful. The designs inside are appealing. The verses are in the order they appear in the Gospels. I truly hope you enjoy this book.
